## Job Summary

The Director of Law Enforcement Academies & Training manages the operational, personnel, and financial activities of the police academy, corrections academy, and law enforcement in-service training activities. This position provides strategic, administrative and operational leadership for law enforcement training and related capital expenditures and develops, implements, and administers departmental operating policies and procedures. This position also provides appropriate resource support to promote operational effectiveness, consistency, and ongoing viability for the Strategic Business and Community Development organization.
This position collaborates with KVCC departments, as appropriate, to ensure: facilitation of enrollment, retention, graduation and employment opportunities with the LEN program, promotion of academies and training programs, integration of key strategies such as Middle College, University Center, etc.; alignment with operational processes, policies and related programs; and assist, as requested, in the coordination of the Law Enforcement Advisory Board.
Duties also include:
* Providing leadership in the strategic planning and program compliance components of the academies.
* Establishing robust relationships and communication networks within the community, other police academies, and police agencies for recruitment and support.
* Ensuring academies are in compliance with MCOLES standards, the Michigan Sheriff's Association standards and College policies, practices, and procedures.
* Responsibility for the purchase and repair of all equipment related to the academies.
* Overseeing exam preparation and proctoring.
* Serving as a safety officer during scenario training.
* Substituting for absent instructors and handling student and instructor disciplinary items as appropriate.
This position may serve as a backup in the Public Safety Department by responding to emergency calls; serving as a public safety officer at special events; providing traffic control; and monitoring radio traffic for calls.
## Minimum Qualifications
A bachelors degree in a related field with a minimum of six years of law enforcement or public safety experience is required.
Prior supervisory experience required.
The ideal candidate must possess a demonstrated ability to interact in a professional, dignified, and cooperative manner with students, staff, the public, and counterparts in law enforcement.
## Preferred Qualifications and Experience
MCOLES certification is preferred.

*Pay Rate:* $62,759 to 73,843 per year. Placement is determined upon education and relevant years of experience beyond the minimum requirements.
